Cell and Cell transport Flashcards
what is a prokaryote
bacteria is a prokaryote and they are very small single celled organisms that do not contain a nucleus and no membrane bound organelles in the cytoplasm
what are the 5 things that a typical prokaryote will ALWAYS contain?
1) a cell wall made of murein (glycoprotein)
2) a cell surface membrane
3) a circular dna molecule that is free in the cytoplasm and not associated with proteins
4) ribosomes (70s)
5) cytoplasm
what are the 3 things that a prokaryotic cell MAY contain
1) a capsule surrounding the cell wall
2) one or more plasmid
3) one or more flagella
how are eukaryotic organisms characterised
by having a nucleus and membrane bound organelles in the cytoplasm
rate of diffusion is proportional to
sa x conc gradient / diffusion distance
