An imaginary sphere with the Earth at its center
Celestial Sphere
A circle around the celestial sphere that is midway between the celestial poles
Celestial Equator
Apparent path of the Sun around the Celestial Sphere during a year
Ecliptic
The imaginary line, from your point of view, that connects the two celestial poles across the celestial sphere.
Meridian
This is where the half of the celestial sphere from your point of view seems to touch the apparent edge or the ground.
Horizon
A cardinal point that is directly above you.
Zenith
A cardinal point that is directly below you.
Nadir
The celestial equivalent of a longitude on the celestial sphere. Expressed in hr, m, s format.
Right Ascension
The celestial sphere’s equivalent of latitude. Expressed in degrees.
