Explain who a “domestic client” is under CDM.
People who have construction work carried out on their own home or home of a family home that is not done as part of a busniess.
What are the main duties of the Domestic Client under CDM?
Duties usually transferred to contractor or principal contractor.
Explain who a “Designer” is under CDM.
Those who, as part of a business, prepare or modify designs for a building, product, or system relating to construction work.
What are the main duties of the Designer under CDM?
To eliminate or reduce or control foreseeable risks that may arise during construction or maintenance and use of a building once built.
Explain who a “Principal Designer” is under CDM.
Appointed by clients in projects involving more than one contractor, who have the knowledge and experience to carry out the role.
What are the main duties of the Principal Designer under CDM?
To plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate Health and Safety in the pre-construction phase of a project. This includes identifying, eliminating, controlling foreseeable risks and ensuring designers carry out their duties.
Prepare and provide relevant information to other duty holders.
Provide information to Principal Contractor to help them to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety during the construction phase.
Explain who a “Principal Contractor” is under CDM.
Contractors appointed by the client to coordinate construction phase of a project where it involves more than one contractor.
What are the main duties of the Principal Contractor under CDM?
To plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the construction phase of a project. This includes liaising with client and principal designer, preparing construction phase plan, and organising cooperation between contractors and coordinating their work.
Ensures site inductions, reasonable steps taken to prevent unauthorised access, workers consulted and engaged, welfare facilities provided.
Explain who a “Contractor” is under CDM.
Those who do the actual construction work and can be a company or individual.
What are the main duties of the Contractor under CDM?
Plan, manage, and monitor construction work under their control so that it is carried out without risks to health and safety.
For projects involving more than one contractor, coordinate their activities with the others and comply with directions given to them by principal designer or principal contractor.
Explain who a “Worker” is under CDM.
The people who work for or under the control of contractors on a construction site.
