CDL - Pricing Flashcards
What is a pricing report?
Report detailing SKU for each product or service
What are the 7 types of pricing options offered by GCP?
A) Free trial
- Free tier
- On-demand
- Committed use discounts
- Sustained use discounts
- Preemptible VM instances
- Flate-rate pricing
- Sole-tenant node pricing
What are the differences between Sustained, Preemptible pricing?
Preemptible - think of it like short term rentals with steep discounts, but the product can be stopped at any time.
Batch and bursty jobs?
Sustained - think of it like a subscription service, with greater discounts with greater use.
What is the difference between flate-rate and sole-tenant pricing?
Flat rate - A fixed free for certain services/resource regardless of utilization.
Sole-tenant pricing - Pricing for a physical compute engine SERVER that hosts your projects ONLY.
Eligible for sustained, not committed, use discounts only.
What is on-demand pricing? What is it ideal for?
Billings based on the degree consumption of cloud resources.
PAYG - hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds OR by API calls ($1 ever 1000 transactions)
Ideal use case:
1. low costs + flexible
2. Only pay per hour
3. Short-term, spiky, unpredictable work loads
What are Sustained Use Discounts (SUDs)? Under what condition to SUDs not apply?
They are automatic discounts for running specific compute engine resources for a significant portion of the month.
Do not apply to VMs created using the App Engine Flexible environment & Dataflow & E2 & A2 machine types
What are CUDs? (GCE)
A deeply discounted VM for committed year/multi-year contracts of 1-3 yrs.
Ideal use case:
1. Predictable workloads
Con:
1. You pay regardless of actual use
What types if machine-typea are associated with SUDs?
- compute-optimized machine types
- Memory “ “ “
- Sole-tenant nodes (10% premium costs)
- general purpose custome & predefined machine types.
- GPU devices
What is Flate Rate pricing? Which GCP service does it apply to?
Applied to BigQuery
BQ offers flat rate pricing for high-volume or enterprise customers who prefer stable monthly costs versus paying on-demand for price per GB processed.
How does Flate rate pricing work?
Works by purchasing dedicated query processing capacity, measured by BQ slots.
If you exceed capacity, BQ will queue up slots (w/ no additional fees)
What is sole-tenant node pricing?
