- Broad spectrum e.g. co-amoxiclav

Factors that increase infection risk
A
Longer duration of abx treatment.
Concurrent use of multiple antibacterials
Multiple courses
PPIs
65+
Prolonged hospitalisation

First episode of mild, moderate, or severe C. difficile infection
A
1st = Vancomycin 125 mg QDS for 10 days
2nd = Fidoxamicin 200 mg BD for 10 days

Further episode - within 12 weeks

- Fidoxamicin

Vancomycin or Fidoxamicin

Vancomycin 500 mg QDS AND Metronidazole 500 mg IV TDS for 10 days
