Digital Media
Any form of media distributive by electronic devices.
Well-Balanced
A range of healthy digital and non-digital habits.
Malicious Email
Emails that appear to be from a legitimate source but are not.
Spam
Unwanted or junk email.
Phishing
The attempt to obtain personal information by disguising as a trustworthy entity.
Malware
Short for “Malicious software” that can damage your device.
Pop-ups
Short for “pop-up window” this is a form of advertising that pops up on a web page.
Internet
A global network of computers - millions of computers around the world connected.
Web
The Web is short for “World Wide Web”.
Web Browser
A computer program that allows access, retrieval, or viewing of information on the internet. (Chrome, explorer, safari, firefox, etc),
Search Engine
A program that helps you find webpages on the internet. Popular search engines include Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Website
A collection of pages that belong to one owner or “domain”
Webpage
A single document on a website that include images, words, videos, and more.
Web address
The identifying address for a file or a webpage on the internet.
Visible Web
Only documents that are available on the internet indexed by search engines
Deep Web
The deep web is any website that cannot be indexed by search engines.
Algorithm
The list of instructions and rules that a computer needs to follow in the task.
Web crawlers/Spiders
Software that crawls around the web exploring webpages and their links and collecting information.
Search index
Similar to an index in a library, which list all the information about the books the library has available.
Keywords
Word that people type into a search engine to find what they are looking for.
Search Query
What a user enters into a search engine to help locate what they are looking for.
Plagiarism
When you take another persons words or ideas and use them as your own
Paraphrasing
Putting someone else’s passage in your own words.
