CCB's Flashcards
1
Q
Verapamil
A
- CCB
- Non-DHP
- Non-selective: mainly will target heart and vasculature and cause peripheral and coronary dilation by blocking ca channels
- Reduce afterload
- Can be used as anti-arrhythmics because of negative I, C, and D effects
- ADR’s constipation, hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmias, headache, peripheral edema, dizziness, AV block
- Precautions: CHF, combo with beta blockers, pre-existing AV block, pulmonary edema, precipitating arrhythmias
2
Q
Diltizem
A
- CCB
- Non-DHP
- Non-selective: mainly will target heart and vasculature and cause peripheral and coronary dilation by blocking ca channels
- Reduce afterload
- Can be used as anti-arrhythmics because of negative I, C, and D effects
- ADR’s: constipation, hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmias, flushing, headache, peripheral edema, rhinitis, AV block
- Precautions: CHF, combo with beta blockers, pre-existing AV block, pulmonary edema, precipitating arrythmias
3
Q
Amlodipine
A
- CCB
- DHP
- Selective: only work on vascular smooth muscle causing peripheral dilation (no/less cardiac effects)
- Reduce afterload
- Potential reflex increase in HR, contractility, and O2 demand- vasodilator on peripheral arteries (like alpha 1 blocker) and get some reflex tachycardia
- ADR’s: peripheral edema, flushing, palpitations, reflex tachycardia, hypotension, dizziness, fatigue (dose dependent)
- Precautions: risk of exacerbating angina, precipitating arrhythmias
4
Q
