CCB's Flashcards

1
Q

Verapamil

A
  • CCB
  • Non-DHP
  • Non-selective: mainly will target heart and vasculature and cause peripheral and coronary dilation by blocking ca channels
  • Reduce afterload
  • Can be used as anti-arrhythmics because of negative I, C, and D effects
  • ADR’s constipation, hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmias, headache, peripheral edema, dizziness, AV block
  • Precautions: CHF, combo with beta blockers, pre-existing AV block, pulmonary edema, precipitating arrhythmias

Q

Amlodipine

A
  • CCB
  • DHP
  • Selective: only work on vascular smooth muscle causing peripheral dilation (no/less cardiac effects)
  • Reduce afterload
  • Potential reflex increase in HR, contractility, and O2 demand- vasodilator on peripheral arteries (like alpha 1 blocker) and get some reflex tachycardia
  • ADR’s: peripheral edema, flushing, palpitations, reflex tachycardia, hypotension, dizziness, fatigue (dose dependent)
  • Precautions: risk of exacerbating angina, precipitating arrhythmias
