CC1 States of Matter Flashcards
Name the 3 states of matter
Solid, liquid, gas
What is the arrangement of particles like in a gas?
Random, far apart
What is the movement of particles like in a gas?
Fast in all directions
What is the arrangement of particles like in a liquid?
Random, close together
What is the movement of particles like in a liquid?
Slide around each other
What is the arrangement of particles like in a solid?
Fixed, touching each other
What is the movement of particles like in a solid?
Vibrate in their fixed position
What state contains the least and most amount of stored energy?
Smallest amount - solid
Most amount - gas
What are physical changes?
State changes. They can be reversed and the chemical properties of the substance don’t change. This is because the particles themselves don’t change - only their arrangement, movement and amount of stored energy.
Sublimation defenition
When the state of matter changes from a solid directly to a gas.
Deposition defenition
When the state of matter changes directly from a gas to a solid
How are particles attracted to one another?
By weak forces of attraction
