bar graph
a graph that uses bars to show and compare data
histogram
a bar graph that groups data into equal intervals shown on a horizontal axis; there is no space between the bars
stem-and-leaf plot
a way to organize data using numerical order and place value; the digits to the left of the ones digits are called stems; the ones digits for each stem are called the leaves
area
the number of square units needed to cover a surface or figure
perimeter
the distance around the outside of any polygon
greatest common factor
the greatest number that is a factor of two or more given numbers
Distributive Property
multiplying a sum or difference by a number is the same as multiplying each number in the sum or difference by the number and adding or subtracting the products
Ex. 3 x (10 + 4) = (3 x 10) + (3 x 4)
dot plot
displaying data that has an order and can be placed on a number line
Venn diagram
two or more overlapping circles used to show overlap between categories of data
