depression can manifest in various forms, non western may display more somatic symptoms. more research is warranted to view its effectiveness on another population.
Critique, clinical utility of cognitive theory
targetting biases is an effective place to start in curing depression. changing these biases and teaching to overcome them
Psychodynamic critique of cognitive theory
Whilst cog theory docusus on bias and the root reason for the symptoms. More focus needs to be on what originally caused the beliefs to form. Psychodynamic approaches may be more focused on the root casue,so that reccurance doesnt happen
Critique of psychotherapy
Person must be willing to engage, needs a good client theraputic aliance, must be willing to do homework
critique of cbt on dumb people
cognitive impaired individuals may struggle to understand some of the more complex features of cbt
Personality differences
Individual differences in personality will effect efficacy of cbt, some may be unwilling to talk about there emotions and thoughts
Suicide
Individuals with high suicidal ideation may need a faster response and supression of symptoms
lack of good theraoutic alliance
Previous negative experiences may discourage people from going into cbt.
Time consuming
Must dedicate a certain amaount of time, some people may not be willing. Antidepressants are far moore effecient
Antisocial disorder
Appears to be poor respons to cbt in antisocial disorder
money
requires high training and is expensive to teach to administer correctly
Confronting emotions
Involving confronting emotions may make it difficult for severly depressed individuals
Wait list
Sometimes their is a long waiting list for treatment, some more severe depression causing large social and occupational distress must be
