Cranial Cavity
space in head containing the brain and surrounded by the skull. Consists of brain and pituitary gland.
Thoracic Cavity
space in chest containing the heart, lungs, bronchial tubes, trachea, esophagus, aorta, thymus gland.
It is divided into a pleural cavity and mediastinum cavity.
Pleural Cavity
Space surrounding each lung (in thoracic cavity)
Mediastinum Cavity
centrally located space outside and between the lungs. Contains heart, aorta, trachea, esophagus, thymus gland, bronchial tubes, and lymph nodes.
Abdominal(Peritoneum) Cavity
contains stomach, small and large intestines, spleen, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder.
Diaphragm
a muscular wall that divides the abdominal and thoracic cavities.
Pelvic Cavity
Contains portions of the small and large intestines, rectum, urinary bladder, urethra, ureters, uterus and vagina.
Spinal Cavity
contains nerves of the spinal cord.
