Cavity Nomenclature Flashcards
lingual wall
cavity surface which is bounded by the cavosurface angle and the cavity floor
Occlusal/pulpal floor
the surface which is parallel to the occlusal plane and overlies the pulp
pulpal axial wall
a cavity surface that is parallel to the long axis of the tooth
gingival floor
a cavity surface in an approximate cavity which is appropriately parallel to the occlusal plane and is bounded externally by the gingival margin
cavosurface margin angle
angle formed at any point, on the junction of a preparation with the unprepared surface of the tooth
should be approx. 90 degrees in amalgam (60-120 clinically acceptable)
proximal wall
a cavity surface orientated towards the midline or facing away from the midline
isthmus
the least wide part of the occlusal key, cut in a proximo-occlusal preparation as a retentive form
buccal wall
a cavity surface which is bounded by the cavosurface angle and the cavity floor
