Causes of WW 2 (RISE OF NAZISM) Flashcards

Q

Reactions of TOV link to a cause?

A
  1. The TOV (Treaty of Versailles) led to World War II
  • because its terms
  1. punished Germany harshly.
  2. The economy collapsed, the government lost power,
  3. the military was weak,
  4. the Germans were angry.
  • Because of these factors, Germans became

loyal to Hitler

and there was the perfect story in Germany that caused World War II.

Furthermore, as a result, of 13% of the territory lost Hitler needed to claim

  1. lands
  2. colonies to feed Germany.

Since Hitler was a fascist leader
militaristic aggression would have been used however the Allies appeased Hitler.

For ex., the Munich Agreement gave Hitler the Sudetenland.

Appeasing Hitler led to war as he kept asking for more the Allies inevitably had to fight Hitler.

In addition to this, 6,600 million pounds in reparations crippled the German economy.

This is why Hitler promised Germany he would punish the Allies for this unrealistic term.

Moreover, Germany utterly resented the War Guilt Clause, as it laid the blame of war totally at the feet of Germany when in practice, they did not spark the conflict, although they did escalate it by invading France.

This laid the foundation for someone like Hitler to come along and harness this resentment to achieve his war ambitions.
