President Truman believed in containment - in order to stop the spread of communism it must be contained
Who was Kim Il Sung?
The man left in charge of North Korea when forces were withdrawn in 1949. He was pro-communism and a recognised military leader.
Who was Syngman Rhee?
The South Korean leader, appointed by the USA. He was viewed as a dictator but was still supported by the USA.
Why did the North of Korea invade the South?
The wanted to unify the country under communist rule.
What happened in 1948 which was a cause of the war?
The UN wanted to hold elections but the USSR rejected the idea causing a split
Why couldn’t the USSR Vito the UN involvement in Korea?
They were boycotting meetings due to communist China not being accepted.
