Navigation act
The colonists could only ship raw materials on English ships and buy goods that came off English ships.
Writs of Assistance
Allowed officials to search anywhere for smuggled goods
Sugar Act
Passed on April 5, 1764 without colonists consent.
The British raised tariff on sugar.
Colonists saw it as taxation without representation.
The money was going to England instead of the colonists.
Stamp act
Passed in November, 1765
Imposed taxes on all legal documents
Marriage, licenses, newspaper, property deeds, playing cards, contracts, etc. Pay tax to revive a stamp/ British seal on those important documents.
Because of this act a group was formed; sons of liberty.
Tea Act
Passed on May 10, 1773
Allowed the British East India company to sell tea to the colonies without the usual colonial tax.
It granted monopoly on the in America to the East India tea company.
The colonists had to buy the tea from that company.
This act led to the widespread boycotts of the tea throuought the colonies.
Quartering act
First occurred on March 24, 1776
Forcing colonists to provide housing and food for the British troops
The soldiers would not have to pay for anything they used or took.
Townshend act
Passed in 1767
Imposing new taxes on colonists
Taxes on lead, paper, paint, glass, and tea imported by the colonists.
Boston massacre
Occurred in 1770 The townspeople pelted snowballs at the guards Shots were fired 11 colonists were hit 5 were killed Crispus Attucks- black man 1st martyr.
Boston tea party
Took place in 1773.
The crowd dressed as Indians.
Boarded three vessels.
Threw nine thousand pounds of tea as a protest to the tax on tea.
Intolerable acts
Were passed by Parliament in 1774 as a reply to the Boston Tea Party
These acts were passed to have more control over the colonies
Boston port bill
Closed the port of Boston
