What is Sleep onset insomnia and common causes??
If someone struggles to get to sleep - lying awake for hours in some cases
- ongoing anxiety which releases stress hormones
- too much caffeine or nicotine before going to bed
- eating a heavy meal close to bedtime
- playing computer games close to bedtime
- physical pain that keep sufferer awake
What is Sleep maintenance insomnia and common causes??
If someone falls to sleep but then has disturbed patterns of sleep where they wake regularly
- depression
- drinking alcohol
- restless legs syndrome
- sharing a bed or room with someone ( who snores)
- menopause (women only)
