Q

Why did treason and Hersey increase in the early modern era (they weren’t previously a cause of crime in the Medieval Era)

A

Due to Protestant reformation and the official religion of the country continuously changing and people weren’t ready to suddenly change their religious views and accept the new religion which meant that according to the country’s laws they were committing a crime

E.g the reformation of the church in 1533 by Henry V111- this meant there were stricter rules on what was classified as heresy (a crime) as before no one really considered going against the official religion as it was always the same and unquestioned

17
Q

Betraying the Monarch/ government
(Hersey is part of this as going against the official religion is also going against the Monarch who enforces that official religion)
