Catholics beleifs on relationships Flashcards
Contraceptions
Catholics believe that when a man and a woman have sex there should be no contraceptions, e.g condom, pills and many others are not allowed. Contraceptions are not allowed because sex should be procreative (being able to give life) not for pleasure. Catholics only agree with natural family planning.
Same gender marriages and sex
The same gender can’t get married because in the wedding vows you have to say you will bring up a child. Also the same gender can’t procreate. So catholics believe if you are gay you should be celibate (not have sex)
Procreate
Catholics believe when you get married you have to take the vow that you will try and give a chance to have a child. This means the couple have to have sex at least once after marriage to give a chance to have a baby.
Sex before marriage
Catholics believe you should not have sex before marriage because you are not fully committed to the person. Marriage is a sign of commitment to each other and committed to have a child.
Cohabitation
Catholics believe that cohabitation is wrong. A couple should get married before having a child, this will show that the couple are committed together and ready to have a child.
Catholics belief about sexual love
Marital, unitive and procreative
Catholic views on divorce
Divorce is not allowed but annulments are acceptable
Church of England views of divorce
They allow divorce so there is no need to have an annulement
Catholic views about the role of women
Women have equal rites and should be treated equally as men and this means the do not have to have the role of a house wife.
