what is moral evil
it is evil that is a result of human actions.
what is natural evil
it is evil that is caused by natural events and not a result of human actions.
what is original sin
in genesis, adam and eve disobeyed god and ate the forbidden fruit. this is called original sin. people are born with original sin and being baptised removes the original sin
what was St Augustine’s response to why god would allow evil in the world
- she said that evil is just the privation of good
- she said that god is not evil, he is the one truly, simple and unchangeable good.
what is St Augustine’s Enchiridion
it gives us 3 answers to the problem of evil.
- the existence of evil allows us to appreciate good
- evil is the absence of good
- he allows suffering because out of his power he is able to bring good out of it.
what is ambivalence
having mixed feelings towards something.
catholics have an ambivalent attitude towards suffering as it is always hard but not always evil.
what are the catholic responses to suffering
- catholics pray for those who suffer. prayers of intercession- pray for the worlds needs.
