Catherine is desperate to be independent. She is obviously well thought of at her collage. However, we can see that Eddie has control over her.
Catherine (flushed with revolt): “you wanna dance Rodolpho?” (Eddie freezes)
Now that Rodolpho has arrived Catherine has the strength to show her independence despite Eddies discomfort.
“What are you scared of? He’s a rat! He belongs in the sewer.”
Eddie has betrayed Marco and Rodolpho and Catherines respect and love for him has turned to hate and loathing. She feels sufficiently strong to tell this to his face.
The two women support him for a moment calling his name again and again. “Eddie, I never meant to do nothing bad to you.”
In the end, Catherine feels guilty for all that happens. She had no idea it could end so tragically. This emphasises her innocence and contradicts Beatrice about her being grown up as she still had no idea how society in Red Hook worked.
