Describe, in detail, two ways that highlight that crime in Scotland is a problem.

1. One reason why crime in Scotland is a problem is because of how much the rate of sexual crimes have risen in the last 10 years.

Sexual offences include, non-consensual sex, sexual assaults which range from rape to serius and non serious sexual offences such as prostition and stalking.

From 2009 until now they have gone up by 97% and in the last 3 years they have increased by another 13%.

Another reason why the crime in Scotland is a problem is because of the increase of crimes of dishonesty.

This category of crime includes all the different crimes that people commit by cheating or deceiving other people or businesses. This includes housebreaking, theft, shoplifting and fraud.

It already takes up just under 50% of all crime and is still going up. Since 2016 crimes of dishonesty have rinsed by 1%. I has been going down for the last 10 year but has now had a sudden increase.

This means it is a crime that is very violent and will result in physical or harm to a prison or property. But it does not involve sexual activity.

For example a 21 year old named Alexander Pacteau murdered 24 year old Karen Buckley on the 12th April 2015.

2. Another category is sexual offences.

These crimes are very harmful in nature and will have an emotional and/ or physical impact on the victim. They all involve some form of sexual activity.

For example, Ryan Graham, a 34 year old man raped his girlfriend which resulted in her taking her own life.
