Who does it affect?
A
Cats, dogs, squirrels, goats, and humans. Cats are the main carriers.

What is cat scratch?
A
A bacterium called Bartonella henselae.

How is it transmitted?
A
By a scratch, bite, or lick on broken skin. Through feces.

Clinical signs in humans?
A
Swollen glands in neck. Chronic tender lymphadenopathy. Fever. Meningitis. Pneumonia. Headache. Skin rashes and itching. Fatigue. Muscle pain. Splenomegaly. Pharyngitis. Infection of eye/eyelid and bone/joints.

Clinical signs in animals?
A
No signs of illness normally. May cause lymphoid hyperplasia in some cats. ( 50-60% of cats are seropositive)

How to treat it?
A
Antibiotics, but most symptoms and disease is self limiting.
