CAT II ILS Flashcards
CAT II ILS weather criteria
RVR 1200
max crosswind is 10 knots (15 kts for training with a min ceiling/vis: 200- 1/2)
What pilots can fly a CAT II approach
both pilots must be current
AC must have logged at least 100 hours in command since the AC qualification evaluation
aircraft equipment requirements
PFD (HUD/PFD) and NAV display in compass or map format operative on each side
dual F/D displays
both ILS NAV (PLSR) receivers
radar altimeter
full flight instrumentation includes:
F/D, HUD/PFD and ND at each station
No “NO CAT II” warning messages
a HUD is required to be used at the PF position, if available
If full flight instrumentation is not available, approach mins are limited to what?
DH based on a hAT of 300 feet RVR 40 (3/4 mile vis with no RVR)
airfield equipment requirements
approach lights: ALSF-1 or ALSF-2 runway centerline lighting HIRL or TDZE RVR ILS FAR field monitor (monitors the ILS critical area) sequenced flashers
restrictions
select CAT II mode on AFCS panel
localizer/approach azimuth must be intercepted before the glideslope/glide path is captured
AP should be disengaged at DH, unless a coupled go-around is made
an operative RA must be selected for display on the PILOT ID side selected
CAT II MLS approaches are not authorized in the COMP mode
NO CAT II messages for:
failure of selected/both RAs
failure of selected ADC(s), select same ADC, or altitude/airspeed displays differ
failure of selected IRUs, select same IRU, or heading/attitude displays differ
either/both PLSRs fail
loss of CAT II capability prior to 300’ AGL
fly a CAT I approach unless the condition can be corrected before reaching 300’ AGL
loss of CAT II capability at or below 300’ AGL
missed approach performed unless visual cues are sufficient to complete the approach and landing
CAT II tolerances
approach airspeed +/- 5 kts
deviation from localizer or glideslope of not more than 1/2 dot
continue the CAT II approach at DH only if all are met:
runway environment in sight
airspeed is +/- 5 kts of approach speed
localizer and glideslope deviation of not more than 1/2 dot
tracking within the extended lateral confines of the runway
stabilized in attitude and airspeed
