Case Study: Shoreham Flashcards
What land uses did we find along the coast shoreham harbour east?
Beach huts Power station Warehouses Cafe Residential
What did our field sketch demonstrate?
A view east from near East Breakwater showed groynes (greenheart) a shingle beach with signs of effective longshore drift reduction and industry to the left.
What did the results of the litter surveys demonstrate?
In two locations using 5 randomly placed quadrates we only found 2 food wrappers, this suggests it is a well managed area that is not badly affected by human activities in terms of litter.
What did the results of the bipolar evaluation of the coastal defences demonstrate?
For the groynes we gave our opinion on several categories to do with the effectiveness in its role as a coastal defence from -3 to 3. We rated its effectiveness in protection against erosion and ability to hold the line a positive 2 as well as a 2 for its good lifetimes expectancy. However we gave a negative -2 for the fact that it disturbs natural coastal processes and habitats.
What did the results of our questionnaire demonstrate?
Questions included “do you ever feel at risk from flooding from the sea/river” and “do you think that the coast is effectively managed in and around Shoreham” the majority of people gave a positive response to the effectiveness of the coastline (make it up).
