Describe stage Two of the battle of Waterloo.
The French attack Chateau d’Hougoumont. Wellington sends some, (but not many) reinforcements.

Hougoumont was not captured by the French. Artillery was used but rain made it ineffective. Wellington ordered Infantry to lie down on the side of the ridge (to block them from French view).

French Infantry attack. At 1330 hrs, the french advanced towards British lines. The allies were ordered to fire.

French cavalry charge. French infantry failed to succeed so at 1600 hrs the French began a string of cavalry strikes.

French cavalry failed, but at 1800 hrs they captured the farm of La Haye Sainte and reinforced themselves and their army.

Before French could strengthen themselves, the Prussians (allied wi5 the British) arrived and forced the French to divert into a a vulnerable position where defeat looked imminent. As a last resort, The french emperor unleashed his elite forces, and sent a charge of his imperial guard. They were defeated, and the french army fell.
