Case study Flashcards
Sleep deprivation
Peter Tripp decided to raise money for a children’s foundation. He did so by sitting inside a glass booth in Times Square and broadcasting his show for 201 straight hours
What did the sleep deprivation study find?
Scientists noted that his brainwaves appeared to mirror what would usually be
the 90 minute REM sleep cycle, which is when we dream most
Neuroimaging
matched participants study investigated murderers pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, who are thought to have brain dysfunction. abnormal cortical and subcortical brain processes that may predispose these murderers to violence
Intelligence
investigated the role of nature and nurture in cognitive abilities of adoptive children relative to their biological and adoptive parents. adoptive and non-adoptive children became more like their biological parents during late-childhood and adolescence. Genetics have a role in cognitive ability in adulthood
Emotional Appraisal Theory
examined emotion-specific patterns of appraisal, coping and cardiovascular reactivity during ongoing emotional episodes. substantial differences between levels of anger, shame and pride for cognitive appraisals, self-reported coping, behavioural coping, self-esteem and cardiovascular reactivity.esults suggest that researchers can study emotion-related issues using authentic emotional reactions.
Emotional Developoment
investigated Romanian children who were adopted into U.K. families after they had been raised in
deprived environments. Suggested being exposed to a deprived environment at an early age may cause some neurological damage, but these results are not deterministic.
