What is the pathophysiology of fatty liver?
NAD+ decrease → decrease gluconeogenesis → increase fatty acids
Fatty deposits in space of Disse
What is the pathophysiology of alcoholic hepatitis?
Alcohol consumption → increased acetaldehyde production → toxic effects of acetaldehyde
What are some signs and symptoms of alcoholic hepatitis?
Change in appetite, tiredness and weakness, fever, hepatomegaly, RUQ pain, jaundice, N+V, WL
If liver inflammation → fibrosis that results in necrosis and scarring, what is this called?
Hepatic Fibrosis/Cirrhosis
What signs and symptoms are assoicated with Hepatic Fibrosis/Cirrhosis?
Same as Alcoholic hepatitis plus:
Oedema/ascites,
bruising/bleeding, malaena,
portal hypertension → varices,
hepatic encephalopathy (liver can’t remove toxins → brain),
liver failure
