Medical history

A

-Systemic: thyroid, lupus, sjogrens (all cause dryness)
-Pregnancy: (last tri, more dry)
-OCT meds: (antihistamines, dry)
-Smoking: dryness, irritation and red eye (NO EXTENDED WEAR)
-Hormone replacement: dryness
Some OTC drops are not for use with CLs

CL and Ocular history

A
  • Ocular injury/surgery/infections
  • If current wearer: what type, how often do they wear/sleeping in? Are they satisfied? How long have they been wearing?
  • Identify solutions in use (may need enzyme cleaner)
  • Identify goals for new wearers

Considerations for CL wear

A
  • Pets? More prone to allergies
  • Age: Oldest, after cataract surgery; youngest, 2-3 years old
  • Occupation: Dirty/dusty? Graveyard shifts need higher Dk
    More dryness occurs with digital device use
  • Sports/Hobbies: RGP can never be worn by a boxer

  1. Cosmesis
  2. Inconvenience of glasses
  3. Sports
  4. Vision therapy
  5. Color deficiency
  6. Anisometropia
  7. Increased field of view
  8. Distortion with glasses
  9. Iris disorders (albinism)
  10. Nystagmus
  11. Corneal conditions (keratoconus)
