CAS Test 1 Flashcards
List the 5 Basic Tasks of Fire Support
- Support forces in Contact
- Support commander’s intent and concept of ops
- Syncronize fire support
- Sustain fire support
- Detailed employment described by COF and scheme of fires products
List the 5 goals of building a 9 Line
- Avoid/Defeat the threat
- Destroy the target
- Deconflict artillery and fighters
- Factors in fighter capabilities and ordnance
- Factors in friendly proximity
Describe 9 Line offset restrictions and how it is applied
- Used to specify any IP to target run-in restrictions
- Indicates the side of the IP to target line on which aircrews can maneuver for the attack
- Does not apply to attack egress
How is the friendly location(Line 8) passed?
Meters and cardinal direction FROM target
*do not pass friendly coords to prevent confusion with target coords
List the 6 requirements for successful laser designation
- Suitable atmospheric conditions
- LOS between AC-130 and tgt and between tgt and LST/LGW
- Attack direction allows LST/LSW to sense sufficient reflected laser energy from the designated tgt
- Correct laser designation time and proper duration
- PRF
- Delivery platform must release the LGW within the correct delivery envelop
List the 6 standard radio calls after “Ready” for wheel/perch attack
- “N, S, E, W”
- “10 seconds to mark”
- “Contact/Tally”
- “Visual”
- “In, heading xxx”
- “Weapon away, xx seconds”
Draw/Describe/List 3 assumptions for IP run-in and Wheel integrated attacks
See JFIRE 2016 pg 65/66
Define TAC(A) per the 3-09.3
An officer who coordinates, from and aircraft, the actions of other aircraft engaged in air support of ground or sea forces.
An extension of air support control agencies
Expedites CAS aircraft-to-JTAC handoff during heavy traffic; coordination of aircraft and surface fire support
Describe the 4 primary responsibilites of TAC(A)
- Provide airspace decon of all assets in the AO
- Control sensor allocation per ROE
- Relay tactical info between applicable C2 agencies, CAS platforms and ground forces
- Prioritize targets IAW targeting guidance and ROE
Describe 6 additional duties of TAC(A)
- Assist with BHA/BDA
- Provide target marks
- Provide terminal guidance for laser guided munitions
- Provide hand-off briefing for follow on TAC(A)
- Maintain running tally of tgts serviced and request add’l assets as req
- Provide reports to higher and supported agencies
Describe the 4 main elements Intel provides to TAC(A)
- Situation: Explains the ‘who’ mission is going after
- Effects: What the capture/kill of the obj will provide to friendly forces
- MLCOA: Enemy’s most likely reaction to friendly assault, based on current knowledge of enemy TTP
- MDCOA: Enemy’s reaction that will be most dangerous to friendly forces
List the 4 steps TAC(A) accomplishes during ingress
- CAS check-in
- Sends CAS player to assigned area
- Provides SITREP( TEFACHR)
- CAS player confirms SA of tgt area(friendly loc/movment)
List each item in TEFACHR
Threat Enemy Friendly force/Intent Arty Clearance Hazards Remarks/Restrictions
Describe the 4 airspace decon methods
- Altitude - Vertical buffer zones where aircraft are free to operate
- Lateral - Clearly defined areas where aircraft may operate in all locations and at all altitudes
- Timing - Coordinated sequencing used to arrange multiple attacks in the same tgt area
- Combination - hybrids of the above types
List 7 essential elements of information for an HLZ
- Vertical obstruction to flight
- Personnel
- Debris
- Vehicles
- Environmental Factors
- Unsuitable terrain
- Livestock
- Dimentions
