Cartilage & bone Flashcards

1
Q

hyaline cartilage

look for: chondrocytes that reside in lacunae, isogenous group (partial division), perichondrium with fibrocytes (surrounding matrix holding chondrocytes..), chondroblasts (inner layer of perichondrium called chondrogenic layer)

compact bone

look for: haversian system (osteon), lacunae, canaliculi (rays of sun), concentric lamellae (concentric layers of bone around osteon), interstitial lamellae (between concentric lamellae), volkmann’s canal (anastomoses btwn central canals), circumferential lamellae (external lamellae)

Q

developing bone

look for:

osteocytes within periostium

osteoblasts within endosteum- bone marrow

epiphysis (hyalin cartilage)

diaphysis (shaft of bone)

endosteum (interor to compact- faces marrow)

compact bone (of the daphysis collar)

spongy bone (of marrow cavity)

marrow (filling the marrow cavity with developing blood cells)

osteoblast (hand around edge of newly forming bone)
