Cartilage Flashcards
Is cartilage vascular or avascular??
Avascular
What are Isogenous Groups??
Groupings of Chondrocytes
What is the primary component of cartilage??
Water
What is the territorial matrix??
Matrix directly surrounding the isogenous groups.
What is the interterritorial matrix??
Matrix in-between isogenous groups.
What is the capsular matrix??
Matrix surrounding the individual cells of an isogenous group.
What is the perichondrium??
Unique connective tissue that surrounds most hyaline cartilages.
What is endochondral ossification??
The process by which cartilage is developed into skeletal bone.
What is the epiphyseal growth plate??
Structure of cartilage at the ends of long bones that allow for the lengthwise growth of bones.
What is articular cartilage??
Structure of cartilage that rests in between the ends of long bones at the joints.
What are the layers of the cartilage diagram?? (Bone on the bottom)
- Cancellous Bone
- Subchondral Bone
- Calcified Zone
- Tidemark
- Deep Zone
- Intermediate Zone
- Superficial Zone
What is the tidemark??
Its the junction of the Calcified Zone and the Deep Zone where chondrocytes originate.
What are the three types of cartilage??
- Hyaline
- Elastic
- Fibrous
What type of cartilage doesn’t calcify??
Elastic Cartilage
What’s a location of hyaline cartilage??
Joints.
