CARS Transponder Requirements Flashcards
How often do you check Transponders?
Bi-annually
What is the rate of interrogation of any test equipment?
PRF of 235pp/s
For older transponders, what is the reply frequency and its tolerance?
1090MHz +-3MHz
For newer transponders with mode S, what is the reply frequency?
1090MHz +-1MHz
When testing suppression if you are getting a reply of 1% and below, how large is P2 in comparison to P1?
P2 is equal to P1
When testing suppression and P2 is 9dB less than P1 explain what happens.
Transponder is replying to at least 90% of interrogations
When testing Rx Sensitivity, for any class, what is the MTL?
-73+-4dBm (old)
For newer transponders with mode S, what is the MTL?
-74+-3dBm (new)
What is the peak power output at the ANT for class A?
125 Watts (21dBW)
What is the peak power output at the ANT for class B?
70Watts (18.5dBW)
What is the peak power output coming out at the bench?
200-250Watts
For any class, what is maximum peak power output that must not be exceeded?
500Watts
Describe the Mode S DIVERSITY test
To make sure there’s isolation between the top ANT and bottom. Selected ANT must have a peak power output of greater than 20dB.
Describe mode S Address test
Make sure it replies only to its assigned address. Use 1 correct and 2 incorrect addresses. 50 interrogations /s.
In the mode S transponder with uplink format, when you select UF4 what are you verifying?
Altitude reply same as ATCRBS mode C
