Transport canada
Who issues Service bulletins in Canada
Aircraft manufacturers
what is the difference between continued and continuing airworthiness
Continued - maintenance require or preformed on an aircraft or product
Continuing - correction of design problems
What are ICAs
Instructions for continued airworthiness. provided by the manufacturer in the for of an operators manual or maintenance manual
What is an SDR?
A Service difficulty Report. used to document and report design problems discovered on an aircraft
What is the Difference between a Service bulletin and an Airworthiness Directive
Service bulletin’s are issued by the manufacturer in response to an SDR. they are recommended fixes for the problem but are not mandatory
Airworthiness directives (AD) are issued by TC for the same reasons but are mandatory by law. will often be linked to manufacturers Service bulletin
what is a certificate of airworthiness? when will one be issued
a Certificate of airworthiness states that a new aircraft conforms with its original type design and is certified as safe and airworthy by the minister (Transport Canada). it will be issued after the aircraft’s submitted type design has been reviewed by transport Canada and receives a type Certificate
what is a type certificate?
documentation certifying the overall design of the aircraft or aeronautical product

what are the different types of flight authorities
certificate of airworthiness (CofA)
Special certificate of airworthiness
flight permit
when will a special CofA be issued
For aircrafts that do not fall within normal categories such as armature built and owner maintained
when is a flight permit issued
for aircrafts that are experimental or need temporary permission to fly under specific circumstances
what are some examples for specific purpose flight permits
ferry flights
exportation
test flights

public
after a defect is discovered, whoever made the discovery has how long to report it
3 working days
the most current information on SDRs can be found where
Advisory circular
if the same defect is discovered by the same person on different aircrafts, are multiple SDRs required
yes. SDRs are specific to aircrafts not defects
is corrosion a reportable service difficulty
no
how long must a defective part be kept after submission of an SDR
21 days minimum
who will transport canada issue ADs to
registered owner of the aircraft
what will an AD include
information identifying the problem, how to fix the problem, effective date of the AD and when the correction must be completed
who is responsible for compliance with ADs
aircraft owners
the minister will only approve an alternate means of compliance to an AD if
the aircraft retains the same level of safety
in case of conflict between transport canada and a Foreign AD, which takes priority
