Marsh mongoose - dark brown with shaggy fur, upturned muzzle
Egyptian mongoose - long body and tail ending in black tassle
Common slender mongoose - black tip to tail
Gambian mongoose - grey with ochre underparts, white chest separated by black stripe
Liberian mongoose - very long nose, black neck stripe
Common cusimanse - long nose, very dark shaggy fur

How do you tell the viverrids of Tai NP apart?

A

African palm civet - mottled brown, long tail
Hausa genet - no crest, reddish brown spots, tail has spots that become darker the closer to the tip
Johnston’s genet - short dorsal crest, 16 evenly spaced bands on tail
Pardine genet - red spots with black outlines, 6/7 pale rings on tail
King genet - dark rings on tail, blotches on dorsal line beginning to amalgamate
West African oyan - very long tail with chevrons becoming rings
African civet - known
