Introversion and extroversion
Jung perceived the unconscious as having two parts…..
Personal unconscious
And collective unconscious
Personal unconscious
Corresponds to Freud’s concept of the unconscious
Jung believed that it contained complexes which are patterns of emotions, memories, perceptions, and wishes organized around a common theme, such as power or status
Collective unconscious
Jung saw this as the inherited experiences of our species
It contains archetypes which are images of universal experiences or any common human experience
(The hero, mother, child, God, death, power)
-persona archetype is the mask/public face we wear to present ourselves differently than we are
-good in that we have to play many roles in life, but it can be harmful if we come to believe it is our true nature. Bad if we are deceiving ourself
Anima/Animas
-anima is the feminine aspects of males
-animas is the masculine aspects of females
This helps us in understanding and nurturing the opposite sex
Shadow
