What is the difference between arrested and dormant caries?
Arrested - stopped but a change in environment will bring it back
Dormant stopped forever
What are intrinsic influencing factors of caries?
Tooth morphology, position, enamel structure and composition
What are extrinsic influencing factors of caries?
Diet, plaque control, saliva flow
What is affect of fluoride on teeth?
Makes enamel crystals bigger, so more stable and less easy to attack
What is the first sign of caries?
White spot lesion
What are the sites of attack?
Pits and fissures
Smooth surfaces
Root surface
Recurrent caries
What is fissure sealant?
An agent used to occlude pits and fissures in enamel to prevent dental caries
