Cargo Ships Flashcards
Special ships are designed to carry wheeled cargoes or vehicles: these are called car carriers. Car carriers are Ro- Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) types of ships that are purposely built to carry a large number of cars.
Car Carriers
easily recognizable with contain- ers stacked up on their deck. These ships are solely designed to carry standard-sized contain- ers that are measured in twenty- foot equivalent units (TEU).
Containers Carriers
transport perishable goods in refriger- ated compartments in which temperatures are controlled to prevent damage or decom- position to cargoes caused by heat.
Reefer ships
These vessels carry timber cargoes on deck. Their cargoes include logs or sawn timber that are either loose or pack- aged. They are marked with special timber load lines in ad- dition to the normal load line markings. The timber load lines allow these vessels to load to a deeper draft resulting in larger displacement
Log ships
are ships easily recognizable with their belt conve system and deck cranes and hoppers used purposely for the effice unloading and carrying of wood chips.
Wood ships Carrier
The sizes and designs of these ships depend on the market demand or simply on what kind of animals will be carried on board.

Passenger ships
These are specifically designed to carry products such as huge vessel parts, engines, large cranes, or even very large containers.
