Career Field
A group of occupations with common skills, knowledge and work setting. They all have similar interests and may require different levels of training for different occupations in the field.
Occupation
The work that you do, it requires special education, training and skills.
Career
An occupation that you have for a large part of your life, it requires a diploma/certificate/degree. There is opportunity of promotion.
Job
You are employed and working, may need basic training.
NSC
National Senior Certificate, attainable at Grade 12. It allows you to apply for tertiary studies.

Factors that influence your career choice
- Community needs: gap between services that should exist and ones that do
- Finances/affordability
- Stereotyping: influence and limit careers we think are possible
- Accessibility: travel, accommodation costs, equipment access, distance learning
- Impact of income tax: pay tax on money earned to run country
Bursaries
Help you pay for tertiary studies for financial need or because you did well
Student loans
Money borrowed from the bank, paid back when you start working
Scholarship
Awarded by companies, if you did very well at school/sports
Learnship/internship
Earn while you learn, study part time, practice what you learn in a real job
