Q

Sandra is a childminder who cares for 6 children under age 5. Her report stated; children aren’t protected from the dog, food prep areas aren’t clean, she falls asleep while caring for them, written records of accidents aren’t available, children’s needs aren’t considered, documents required aren’t available. OFSTED graded her care ‘inadequate’. The food preparation areas aren’t clean which is a hygiene problem, also the children aren’t protected from the dog which could cause physical harm; therefore, she is putting the children at risk of injury.
Describe 2 ways that national initiatives, such as OFSTED, can help practitioners like Sandra to improve the standard of care they provide.

A

inspection report- to make strengths and weaknesses known
provident guidelines- to know what’s expected
set targets- to know how to improve
guidance- to know how to meet the standards, to ensure legislation is being followed
person centred care- to meet individuals need
