Care giver interaction (attachment) Flashcards
What is reciprocity
Responding to the action of another with a similar interaction
What did Feldman and eidleman (2007) do?
Mothers typically pick up on and respond to infant alertness around two thirds of the time.
From around 3 months interaction is more frequent and involved close attention to verbal and facial signals.
What did brazelton (1975) do
Looked and mothers and babies and saw how the baby took an active not passive role.
Both mother and child imitate each other and take turns doing so.
This sensitivity lays down foundation for later attachment
What is intersectional synchrony
Two people mirror each other’s movements
What did meltzoff and Moore (1977) do
Conducted the first systematic study of interactional synchrony.
They found that infants as young as 2 to 3 weeks old imitated specific facial and hand gestures
The study was conducted using an adult model who displayed one of three facial expressions or hand movements.
they found that there was an association between the infant behaviour and that of the adult model
Strengths of care giver interaction
Well controlled
Highly valuable research
Weakness of care giver interaction
Failure to replicate
Yeh
Problems with testing infant behaviour
