What did Lorenz do in 1935

A

Imprinting is there is an innate readiness to form a strong bond
He split a group of goose eggs and when they hatched half of them saw Lorenz first and half saw thier mother
His group followed him everywhere the control group followed thier mother even when mixed they still showed these characteristics
Imprinting should take place in the critical period

What did Harlow do in 1959

A

Put a baby monkey in a room with two ‘mothers’ one wire that have food the other cloth
All 8 monkeys spent most of thier time with cuddling the cloth mother
This shows that comfort is more important
The monkeys were abandoned and were aggressive and unsociable and did not properly take care of thier own babies
