Care for Animals Flashcards

1
Q

State 3 bible references on animals.

A

• Genesis - “I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals.”
God says we have the right to treat animals however we want. However this references stewardship. Control means protection, not abuse.
• Deuteronomy - “don’t ignore it; help him”
Help all creatures; don’t let them suffer.
• Luke - “Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one sparrow is forgotten by God.”
Jesus told us to be kind to the weak and helpless, even the most insignificant.

Q

State 3 arguments against the use of animals in medical research.

A
  • Animal experiments may be scientifically flawed. Artificially inducing a condition that a healthy animal would normally never contract, and keeping it in a stressful, unnatural environment can’t be compared to a naturally occurring disease in humans.
  • Alternative methods, eg. human cell cultures, could be more accurate.
  • More expensive than other methods.

Q

State 3 arguments against the use of animals in cosmetic testing.

A
  • Testing on animals is useless because a product does not give the same results on animal skin as it does on human skin.
  • The Bible teaches stewardship - we shouldn’t cause unnecessary pain to animals.
  • Cosmetic testing on eyes is unnecessary - it can be determined whether a product is harmful based on the chemistry involved.
