Cardiovascular System- Unit 4 Flashcards
What are the four main parts of the blood?
Plasma, platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells
What is the structure and function of a plasma?
A clear yellowish liquid
Provides transport for blood
What is the structure and function of platelets?
Produced in the bone marrow and fragments of other cells
Form blood clots to slow or stop bleeding
What is the structure and function of the red blood cells?
Made in the bone marrow and is red because of haemoglobin
Transport oxygen and carbon dioxide
What is the structure and function of a white blood cell?
Part of the immune system
Fight against infections and identify abnormal material
What is a T cell?
They release chemical signals to trigger a full immune response, they can also bind to cell which are infected and cause a apoptosis ( which is a triggering a ‘self destruct’
What is a b cell?
Produce antibodies which lock onto specific chemicals (antigens) in walls of bacteria and immobilising them to make them a trigger to destroy
