cardiovascular system Flashcards
memorise
vascular system develops
in the 3rd week of development because the fetus is unable to satisfy its nutritional requirments by diffusion alone.
progenitor cells form
primary heart field .
primary heart field forms
atria, left ventricle and most of right ventricle.
secondary heart field forms
part of right ventricle and outflow tract.
laterality
cells on the right contribute to the left and those on the left contribute to the right. This explains the spiralling nature of the pulmonary artery and aorta.
cardiac tube begins to bend on
day 23
cephalic portion of the tube bends
ventrally,caudally and to the right
caudal portion bends
dorsally,cranially and to the left
bulbus cordis forms
trabeculated part of right ventricle.
conus cordis forms
outflow tracts of both ventricles.
truncus arteriosus forms
roots and ptoximal portion of the oarta and pulmonary artery
4th week
sinus venosus receives venous blood from the right and left sinus horns
each horn receives blood from
the vitelline vein, umbilical vein and the common cardinal vein
5th week
right umbilical vein and left vitelline vein obliterate.Left sinus horn rapidly loses its importance.
10th week
left common cardinal vein is obliterated. The remaining left sinus horn forms the oblique vein of the left artrium and the coronary sinus.
