Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Heart
Central muscle of cardiovascular system
Blood
The fluid medium of the cardiovascular system
Liquid connective tissue
Blood vessels
Network of hollow tube like structures that connect to the heart and other organs of the body
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart
Able to withstand high amounts of pressure
Veins
Carry blood back to the heart
More flexible than arteries which reduces resistance to the flow of blood
Capillaries

Where nutrient and gas exchanges happen
Pulmonary circulation
Blood circulation between heart and lungs
Systemic circulation
Blood flow between the heart and the rest of the body
Aorta
Transports oxygen rich blood to the other arteries in the body
Brachiocephalic trunk
An arch where the aorta branches into the carotid arteries

Supply blood to head and neck
Verletral arteries
Supplies blood to the to spinal cord
Arteries in the arms:
