Cardiovascular System Flashcards
1
Q
List the primary functions of the cardiovascular system.
A
•Pumping action
- Pumps blood into body and lungs.
- Receives blood from the body and the lungs
- Promotes blood pressure
• Transportation
- Provides channels through which blood and lymph travel
- Provides areas ( capillaries) where to transfer gases , nutrients, fluids, electrolytes, and wastes occur.
2
Q
Be able to list the structure of the heart: chambers, valves, septum, SA nodes, AV nodes, bundle his, purkinje fibers.
A
•Chambers: 2 upper- Atria 2 lower- ventricle •Valves: - Tricuspid - mitral / bicuspid - pulmonary -aortic
•SA node= sinoatrial node
-top of the Rt atrium
60-100bpm
•AV node= atrioventricular node
- bottom of Rt atrium
- Bundle of his- in septum
- Purkinje fibers- Through lower septum and ventricles
3
Q
Know which side of the heart has deoxygenated blood verses the oxygenated blood.
A
Lt side=
Oxygenated blood
Rt side= deoxygenated blood.
4
Q
What is systole and diastole?
A
- Systole is when the ventricles force the blood into the aorta and represents the maximum amount of pressure exerted on the arteries.
- Diastole is when the ventricles relax and exert minimum amount of pressure exerted on the arteries.
5
Q
What are the pulse points?
A
- Temporal
- Carotid
- Apical
- Brachial
- Radial
- Femoral
- Popliteal
- Dorsalis pedis
- Posterior Tibial
6
Q
What creates a pulse?
A
A heart beat.
7
Q
What provides blood to the heart?
A
Oxygen
