Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Arteries
Bring blood away from the heart
Veins
Bring blood back to the heart
Arterioles
Smaller arteries connecting capillaries to arteries
Venules
Smaller veins connecting capillaries to veins
Capillaries
Where diffusion of gases and substance exchange occurs
Pericardium
Double layer sack surrounding the heart for protection
Myocardium
Cardiac muscle. Heart muscles
Tricuspid Valve (right atrioventricular)
Valve between right atrium and right ventricle
Bicuspid Valve (or left atrioventricular)
Valve between left atrium and left ventricle
Pulmonary Valve
Blood moves through the right ventricle and then through this valve
Aortic Valve
Blood moves through the left ventricle and then passes through this valve
Superior Vena Cava
Carries DO2 blood to the heart from above the diaphragm
Inferior Vena Cava
Carries DO2 blood to the heart from below the diaphragm
Pulmonary Trunk
Blood flows here after pulmonary valve
Pulmonary Arteries
Blood flows here after passing through the pulmonary trunk out to the lungs
