Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Located in thoracic cavity
Heart
Is closest to the diaphragm
Apex
Is closest to clavicle
Base
Innermost layer in contract with blood
Endocardium
Middle muscular layer of heart
Myocardium
Outermost layer of heart
Pericardium
Intact with heart proper
Epicardium
Has a 2-sided/double-sided pump
Heart
Contains and transports deoxygenated blood
Right
Contains and carries oxygenated blood
Left
Where the superior and inferior vena cava empty deoxygenated blood from the body
Right atrium
Where the pulmonary veins transport oxygenated blood back to
Left atrium
Blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart
Arteries
Blood vessels which carry blood back to the heart
Veins
Circulation throughout the body, higher pressure
Systemic circuit
Exchange/flow of blood between heart and lungs
Pulmonary circuit
Provides blood for the heart to get it’s own circulation
Coronary circuit
Supplies the heart with oxygenated blood
R+L coronary arteries
Drains deoxygenated blood and brings the deoxygenated blood through the coronary sinus to the right atrium
Coronary veins
Parasympathetic division through cranial nerve 10 (vagus nerve)
Autonomic nervous system
Maintains sympathetic control pf heart rate and force constrain (slows down heart, foot off the pedal)
Medulla Oblongata
Prevents backflow of blood, open to allow blood to move from one location to another
Valves of the heart
Prevents back flow of blood to the ventricles
Semilunar valves
Prevents blood in aorta returning to the left ventricle
Aortic semilunar vlave
