Cardiovascular/Heart Anatomy Flashcards
Fossa ovalis
Depression in right atrium of heart, remnant of thin fibrous sheet that covered foramen oval during fetal development
Functions: Chordae tendinae/papillary muscles
Connect papillary muscles to tricuspid/mitral valve
Left vs. right ventricular wall thickness
Left thicker because must pump blood to most of body while right only pumps to lungs
Perfused
Supply organ/tissue with blood
Ischemia
Restriction in blood supply, shortage of oxygen/glucose
Hypertrophy
Increase in volume of an organ (enlargement of component cells)
Hyperplasia
Increase in number of cells/proliferation of cells
P/D: Anterior interventricular branch
Ventricles
P/D: Circumflex branch
Left ventricle/left atrium
P/D: Right coronary artery
Right atrium
P/D: Posterior interventricular branch
Ventricles
P/D: Marginal branch
Myocardium of right ventricle
P/D: Great cardiac vein
Left/right ventricles
P/D: Middle cardiac vein
Left/right ventricles, left atrium
P/D: Small cardiac vein
Right atrium/ventricle
P/D: Coronary sinus
Right atrium
Function: Coronary circulation
Circulation of blood vessels of heart muscle
