Cardiovascular Drugs Indications Flashcards
Fibrates
High cholesterol
Statins
High cholesterol
Nitrates
Angina
B-adrenoreceptor antagonists
Angina, reduce risk of death post-MI, heart failure, hypertension, IHD, atrial fibrillation
Calcium channel blockers
smooth muscle = hypertension, cardio = atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, angina
COX inhibitors
prophylactic anti-platelet. Reduce risk of thrombus formation
P2Y12 inhibitors
prophylactic anti-platelet. Reduce risk of thrombus formation
Thrombin-receptor antagonist
prophylactic anti-platelet. Reduce risk of thrombus formation
IV Heparin (Anticoagulant)
thromboembolic disease (unfractionated heparin used only with renal failure, or with high risk of bleeding)
Warfarin (Anticoagulant)
thromboembolic disease: atrial fibrillation, artificial heart valves, DVT, Pulm embolism, antiphospholipid syndrome, (MI)
Rivaroxaban (Anticoagulant)
DVT and PE, prevention of cardioembolic events in patients with AF, benefits over warfarin
Fibrinolytic
given within 12 hours of MI
Cardiac Glycoside
heart failure with rapid atrial fibrillation, or last resort after ACE inhabit and diuretics. Acute heart failure.
Loop diuretics
chronic heart failure
Aldosterone Receptor Antagonists
chronic heart failure
